Really Strange Internet Problem

I'm having a really strange problem on my main computer. It can't make a connection to the internet and everytime I try, it says Limited or No Connection. However, after 30 minutes of cycling my modem and router constantly, it arbitrarily starts working, and after that it works perfectly. I'm pretty sure its not the modems or the routers fault because a secondary computer works fine off the same router, and bypassing the router didn't change anything.

Any suggestions?

Making sure that technology works is based on a finding out technically where the brake down occurs and how to fix it, stories usually do not help in fixing technology. 😉 - 😀

If some thing is wrong with the computer itself you can cycle the modem and router until "doomsday" and it would Not fix the problem.

1. What is that you have there in terms of Internet connection and Networking?

2. Does the Internet per-se is going down or your computer loses its local connection to the Router?

3. hat is the status of the Other computer when this occurs?

3. What IPConfig shows when it is down?

1. Well, I just have a simple cable modem connected to a Buffalo wireless router. I have my main and my secondary connected using physical wires and my PS3 connected wirelessly.

2. The computer refuses to connect to the network. It works fine when it is connected, but when I shut down and restart the computer, it refuses to connect to the network even though it was working perfectly well 30 seconds beforehand. When the computer is connected to the network by some lucky chance, there is absolutely no problem.

3. My secondary computer and my PS3 works perfectly well 100% of the time. Its only my main computer.

4. IPConfig says the subnet mask and autoconfiguration IP both has a connection, the DNS suffix and default gateway are blank.

1) try resetting the tcp/ip stack...start > run > cmd > netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt

2) what happens if you assign a static, unused IP address in your LAN range?

3) what type of NIC card, PCI or onboard? do you have a spare that can be swapped in?

4) if you boot into safe mode, does the computer get a DHCP address immediately?

5) what is the configured DHCP pool range in the router?

6) doesn't sound like a physical issue, but how is the ethernet cabling? homemade or store bought? try replacing the cable or shits and giggles.

I've had overlapping IP's being given out before (one was fixed and the other was already given out with DHCP). Caused action similar to OP's. I think the #2 above might do the trick...I guess time will tell.
