Hey. My dads server at work has USB1 and currently takes like 4 hours to back up 10GB of data onto a portable HDD. If I was to buy a USB2.0 PCI Card, does that mean that it will run at USB 2.0 speeds?

Thanks

As long as the portable HDD is USB 2.0 compatible(which is fairly standard these days), it should run at USB 2.0 speeds.

It really depends on what operating system is being used as USB 2 drivers from third parties have only been made for Windows 98SE and above.

Yup, as long as you have at least Win98SE with all USB updates and patches you should get USB HS thruput. geeks.com was blowing out some USB 2 cards recently. Looks like Newegg is blowing out some add-on cards too.

i think he meant the original ports.

buying a usb2.0 add-in card will NOT make the original built in ports run at 2.0 speeds. Those will still run at the old speeds.

However, the card itself has ports on it that will run at usb2.0 speeds.

Thanks for all your help. I did mean the ports on the PCI Card as I know built in ports will not run at USB2.0. It was a Windows 2000 Server operating system. Thanks for all your help.. that has answered my question beautifully :)
