I ran Sandra HD benchmarks and I get a palsy score of 13889!!! My HD is a Maxtor 20gb 7,200 NTFS formatted. I defraggmented and it only bumped upto 15266. I also checked and it is set to UDMA mode too. I am at a complete lost as to why my HD is so low. When I scroll or use alot of cpu, my mp3z skip and pop. This is horrible. I am thinking about reformmating and going FAT32 instead, but before I do, any help as to bumping up my HD scores? grrrrr....

HD Performance is directly related to the Drive Controller driver. Check to make sure you have the right controller driver and also the latest version. Check the mobo manual and also their homepage for the latest version.😎

Okay I ran HD Tach:

Random Access Time: 14.7ms
Read Burst Speed: 57.2 mbps

Read Speed- Max: 24608.0kps
Min: 13630.0kps
avg: 20602.9kps

*sniff*

That's pretty Low
I get HD Tach
IBM 30 gig GXP 7200 RPM
KT7 Raid(No Raid used)
Max= 39125
Min= 24765
Avg= 34568

What motherboard are you using. That info may let us help you better, if you are using the HPT controller on a Abit board and it is not setup right that could be your problem.

And what kind of maxtor is this? I got the 6800+ 20.4 gb and gets a score around that. And it seems like it gets alittle bit better with fat32.

But if it is the 40+ or 60+ the score is kind of low.

Here is the funny thing, I was playing starcraft today and the hd starts to whirl noises and screech. hahahaha, nuts.

oh yeah, i got an asus p3v4x and maxtor 40+
