Hi, my friend just recently did a clean install of windows xp home on his computer, and now it takes about 5 minutes to boot into windows, and installing games takes 3 time longer than it should. Windows 2000 used to work perfectly. His computer is..

Athlon64 3500 2x1gb Kingston ddr 400 value MSI K8N- neo4-f
Geforce 7900 gt WD sata I 250 gb HD 8 mb cache Enermax 535 watt ps

I have tried uninstalling drivers for the motherboard, but there is always a little error msg in a black box, something about "file cannot be copied", and I have tried installing the newest nforce drivers off of the nvidia website, and the newest msi drivers too.. Games seem to run fine, it is just slow transfer speeds of files.

I would check to see if the drive is in UDMA mode 5. Go to Device Manager -> IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.
