two weeks ago I had a WD 180gb HD installed in my comp replacing my old maxtor 40gb one. I partitioned the 180gb one into two drives. The primary one is 20gb (FAT32) and the secondary one is 160gb (NTFS). I installed Win2k on the 20gb partition and everything was fine and dandy. Last night I was burning a DVD and unraring some large files (4gb +). After awhile the computer suddenly rebooted and I can hear my HD spin down. Then when it tried to boot up, it couldn't. I put back my old maxtor and set the new one as slave to see what is going on. I feared that the HD had crashed. Once I booted into Win2k on my old maxtor, I did a check on the 180gb one and the primary partition was completely wiped while the secondary one was intact (phew). I did a reformat of the parimary partition into NTFS and did a checkdisk. There were no bad sectors and I thought it was just a one time deal. I reinstalled Win2k and a second ago I was burning a DVD and unraring a large file and the same exact thing happened AGAIN!!!! WTF???? I've never had problems unraring and burning dvds on my old HD before. Either I'm having a motherboard issue or this harddrive is sh!tty as hell. Someone plz tell me what's going on!
