Really really dark Q3 after reinstalling then copying and pasting in .cfg file???

just as title says. Just installed WinXP and now when I try to replace the new .cfg file with my old one the game gets all dark and stuff. Played with gamma that doesnt work. I think it happened before in win98 but I can't understand what in the .cfg file would cause it to get dark. It was working fine in win98 and it works fine if you dont replace the new .cfg file.
 
r_ignorehwgamma 0/1 is probably the culprit. Use the brightness slider and either enable or disable this variable to change the brightness.
