Really quick question about websites...

I am splitting everything up into directories now that I have a server for my domain name... just wondering, can I use "." and ".." like in *nix? I mean, if I am in the "articles/" directory, and I need to post an image from the "images/" directory... can I use "../images/blah.JPG"? I would imagine so, just checking... "." will bring me up one and ".." will bring me up all the way, right?
