really odd problem...

computer keeps disconnecting from the internet, the guys at the cable company say the cable modem is fine.

I did some tests to see what was what, when the internet would go down, I would immediatly rush the cable modem to my dads computer. To my surprise the internet worked fine! so the cable modem and service is working correctly.

I then checked my router, I pluged the cable modem Directly into my computer, and released IP, then tried to renew, it timed out......

pluged the cable modem back into the router, the internet light started blinking like crazy like it always does on the router. I plug my PC back into the router, release and renew... no problems..

check the internet.. still nothing, then after 15 mintues, it just starts working again for no apparent reason.

my computer does this about 10-20 times through out each day randomly..

Could this be a bug of some sort, a driver issue?

- ASrock dual sata 939
- WINXP PRO/SP2
- AMD 3700
- Watercooled etc.

my girlfriends internet was super flaky like that as well, turns out the router was just getting hot and would shut off, she could unplug it let it cool down and plug it back in and all was good for a little while. What brand modem/router are you using?

not sure if that would be the case , the modem is brand new its, a linksys wireless N, motorola SB5101 SURFboard cable modem.

its gotta be my computer, becuase if I lose the router, and have the cable modem directly into my computer, it still times out when i release and renew.

it never does that when plugged into the router tho. myc omputer just refuses to have internet at certain points. its really wierd, when i get back from work today i'm gonna scan hard for spyware, which i know i dont have.. lol

I am having a similar issue as you, and have narrowed it down to the ARP cache getting corrupted. I would take a look and see if that is your issue.

I was having a somewhat similar problem---turned out to be the network interface card. But its on your computer and not on the modem. Could be malware but I doubt it.
Which leaves hardware or software on your computer---renew your winsock and replace your NIC. If its not those you are going to have a long and hard time of troubleshooting unless you have some sort of logfile software that will show what is happening when you lose the internet.
