Question Really odd problem on both my machines

So I right click a file to copy to another folder and ALL the files in the folder get highlighted. One time the one file was highlighted I selected copy then pasted it to another folder and windows created a folder with the file and added some extra stuff.

I go to rename a file and the file under it also gets the same rename.

This type of stuff has started happening on both my Intel and AMD machines. I've always been in the habit to make sure I click the mouse somewhere to undo a highlight after I'm done.

try scanning for any malware. perhaps run System File Checker. Perhaps C-cleaner might help.

Does rebooting the PC make it work correctly?

Thanks for the reply. I'm not really sure what's going on. I've gone through File Explorer Options via Control Panel. Performance Options via System Properties. I've ran memtest, windows memory checker, full Windows Security scan. SFC /scannow.

It's really odd.

nothing out of the ordinary found?

perhaps it was a windows update?

Nothing found. Also checked the Mouse properties too.

I'm thinking it might be a windows issue, but one machine is running 2004 and it's an AMD system, and the other is an Intel X58 system that hasn't gotten 2004 yet due to some old hardware.

I was thinking of using 'Launch folder windows in a separate process'

Check your SHIFT and CTRL keys on your keyboard.

That's a possibility. I'm going to check most everything I know about the keyboard and windows. First I'll try uninstalling it through device manager then rebooting.

Funny thing is they are both steelseries keyboards and both machines are having the issue. I did recently swap keyboards on my gaming machine to the steelseries. I was using a Bloody board.

I also did a bios update on my AMD rig. Been reading reports of the release being bugged. That doesn't explain why my old machine is having the issues. I did increase the DRAM volts on my X58 (old) rig. It seems fine the past 24hrs. On the AMD rig I did increase the clock rates on the DRAM but it checked out several times with memtest, hmm
