my marvell gigabit onboard nic (Asus A7N8X-E) behaves strangely. i'll randomly get bouts of non-response from my network/internet. like if i alt+tab from Azureus (bittorrent client), then go back. all the transfer speeds reset to 0 and it reconnects after a few minutes. Internet Explorer also halts randomly. AIM and mIRC disconnect...

i plugged it into the onboard nVidia 10/100 nic and so far it hasn't had those problems. the nvidia is running thru the mobo's southbridge it says. and i am overclocked to FSB 218MHz...

i was thinking of getting a gigabit lan in the house, but now not so sure if the one on this computer isn't working. will getting a pci nic solve the problem? why isn't the blasted marvell nic behaving normally.

i transfer huge files like movies and game installs routinely...going 10x as fast would be worthwhile since i often spend half an hour to 60 minutes sitting copying files at a time.

Have you tried it at stock speeds? An onboard nic is often the first device on the PCI bus to flip out when you start ramping up the FSB. Also, make sure you're using CAT5e or better if you're connected to a gigabit switch.

You will NOT get 10X the speed boost going to gigabit
