I do want a FX 8120 but i also want a better gpu than my crappy my HD 4870 1GB. what should i do. my budget right now is only about $200 might can do $215.

hmmm $100 is tempting.I think if you're 4100 is sufficient at the moment I would pass and up the gpu then upgrade to vishera if it hasn't been canceled or wait for steamroller.

assuming these are all going be on socket am3.

The 4100 is 3.6GHz and the 8120 is 3.1GHz. You aren't likely to get the same overclock, so in most games the lower clock speed will hurt more than the extra cores will help. On top of that, the power consumption with the 8120 will go through the roof. Get the GPU.

The 7850 is arguably the best bang for the buck card right now, and you can easily find some in the $200 range.

EDIT>> The consensus is also to avoid single fan coolers.

Sell your HD4870 and FX 4100, add that to your $215 budget and buy both?

It is hard to justify even $100 for an 8 core cpu when even a $70 intel dual core chip outperforms it in most games. Now if you want to game and run fraps and teamspeak and watch youtubes on a 2nd monitor while gaming, then the 8 core might be better.

Durvelle27: If you are planning on using the 8120 in your mb below, it supports ONLY the 95watt version, not the standard 125 W version. Are you aware of that? I have payed around with the 8150 and obviously it is able to be OCd in my Asus Sabertooth 990FX mb that has an eight phase power controller and supports 125W chips. I have not seen a 95W 8120 and highly doubt that it would be a good OCer. Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings but don't want you to spend a $100 on a 8120 and find out it won't run on your mb.

If you're going to end up upgrading your board anyway, you really should consider an i5 setup instead. I could understand sticking with AMD if you're getting a decent deal on a processor and already have the board to run it on, but if you need to upgrade the board it really doesn't make it worth it, even if it costs you $50-100 less.

2500k's can be had for around $170 easily enough, and you can get an Asrock Z77 board for under $100. Difference of <$100 and you're getting a much better CPU and a board that isn't shit. Money well spent if you ask anyone who doesn't have brand prefrence. ;)

Just look at your current system as a perfect example. Your 4100 is well under a year old and you're already looking to upgrade it. You can keep doing mediocre upgrades on a regular basis, or get something that will be relavent for much longer.

I was an AMD guy too. ;)

Now I buy whichever hardware has the most value to me, which lately hasn't been the green team, at least in the CPU arena.

Ati was red, AMD was traditionally green. At least they don't use blue.
