I'm building my new system soon and I would really like to stop using my 19" CRT and get an LCD. When it comes to LCD's, I'm kind of lost, I've tired looking for a lot of information on what to look for in an LCD, but when ever I find an article, it is always out of date. The one LCD that I have always been thinking about getting is the ViewSonic Pro Series VP930b. I would mainly be using the LCD for gaming and some movie watching. Could you guys please give me some advice and point me in the right direction of where I can learn more about what to look for in an LCD. Thanks for the advice in advanced.

I can do both.

Acer AL2051W This is the LCD that you should most likely buy. You need to give a little more information thoguh: what CPU, GPU, and amount of memory will you be running? The Acer is native at 1680x1050, but scales well. There is absolutely no better deal for a widescreen, 8-bit panel.

The LCD thread Take some time and read through this thread and you will soon learn all that you will need to know when making an LCD purchase.

You should be quite fine at the resolutions of this monitor. Heck, you could even go 24" if you wanted, although I wouldn't recommend that as when newer games come out, driving them at 1920x1200 will be tough on any current setup. I still say the Acer is the monitor you should get. It's worth more than twice what they're asking for it. Hopefully others will have some advice for you as well.

I've only had the AL2051W for a week but Modular is right it is a very nice pannel. I don't play FPS but loaded up Doom3 and it and it looked great. My main game is LOTR's online and compared to the 17" LCD it was night and day... It felt like a new game!

Honestly I would not worry about it. Most if not all LCD?s seem to have some sort of bleeding if you go looking for it. Does the Acer have some bleeding going on? yep. Does it bother me or do I notice it when using my computer? nope.

I?m not sure if you have ever seen a Dell 9300 laptop but if you have that has way more bleeding going on and mine has never bothered me.

Like I said I played Doom3 (dark game) and have watched some fairly dark movies and they looked great to me.

That acer does have a slow response time though ? Not saying it's not a nice deal, but when spending 500$ on a videocard you shouldn't be skimping on a screen, what else did you buy that amazing videocard for, to do folding @ home?

Heh I honestly wish I could tell you a screen I would recommend. But it depends on how much you are willing to spend, and what resolution you want. I'm on a pretty decent 1024*786 lcd screen, but I'm gonna buy a new screen in about a month, or well, get it for my birthday. I want a 20 inch screen, simply because that's gonna be a big upgrade over what I have, most 19inch screens can't do that.

The lg l204wt has been suggested to me, it seems to be a good gaming screen, and I'm really thinking about buying that one. Unless I find something better, but I'm on a pretty tight budget, willing to spend 225-250 euro's tops.
