Have an Abit-KT7-RAID with 370 HPT Controller, AMD 1.0gig
- Installed a new Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 30gig hd a couple of weeks ago. Ran HDTach last night & the scores were low.
- Switched hd from IDE1 to IDE3 (thanks to GregANDTCH - my last hd didn't work on IDE3).
- Installed latest HPT drivers.
- Went into HPT BIOS and chose the Maxtor as the bootup disk. It's listed as UDMA 5.
- Maxtor is now reading as a SCSI in Device Manager.

Scores are better but -
Read Burst: Before-50.2; Now-67.9
Random Access: Before-16.8; Now-15.2
CPU Utiliz.: Before-12.1% Now-15.3%
Read Speed is the same.

I can't figure out why the Random Access speed and CPU Util. scores are as high as they are.

Also, when I restart, system hangs, so I have to turn off the computer and then turn it on again. I tried disabling the Primary IDE in BIOS, but that didn't help. ACPI is showing as working properly.

Anyone have any suggestions. I could really use some..

Those are not that bad....really...

My cpu utilization on a pci controller card is about the same as your before...That may just be something to do with the highpoint controller itself.

The random acces of my 45 gig is like 13. somthing ms...

You are so close it doesn't make a hill of beans...my scores are slightly better but I doubt either one of us could see it head to head.

Don't live and die by hdtach and benchmarks.

Thx. I'm at the point where I can accept the scores - but then I ran into the problem with the system locking up when I shut down or restart. I'm on Win2k now and can't figure this out. It happened after I switched the hd from IDE1 to IDE3, and ACPI is showing as okay.
