Hi,
I really need help on this. I can't even boot up. :( I've been reading ton and tons of post while waiting for my mobo to come in.. Anycase I finally received everything today. Here's what I have:

Asus A7M266
2 x Crucial CT3264Z265 (256MB, PC2100 DDR)
Millenium 2 PCI card and a NVIDEA card (not sure what model at the moment)
AMD 1300 package (1.3GHz w/ heatsink & fan)
Newton Power Supply (from a Gateway computer) Output 200W Max
+5V 18A, -5V 0.3A, +12V 6A, -12V 0.3A, +5VSB 0.7A, +3.3V 10A)
(Yah I know it's weak but I got a 300W coming in a new case soon :) )

What I did initially:
I removed the VIO1 pin to get the 2.5V.
I didn't install the audio card (figured to keep it small to get it up the first time)
I installed the NVIDIA card into the AGP slot
I installed 1 256MB DIMM (Like I said, keeping it small)
I installed 1 IDE HD w/ Win2k
I installed the floppy drive.
No internal speaker (case didn't have one)

Okay it's all standard stuff, Well I booted up and it went to BIOs directly, I set the settings to Turbo, and the BUS to 133MHz. Seemed reasonable. Anycase I then Saved and rebooted.. and only got a orange light off my monitor for my trouble. Power button didn't have a response so I have to pull the A/C plug.

What I tried:
I've tried running VIO1 at 2.7V, and 2.5V.
Swapped the memory with my other crucial (remember I bought 2)
I've even tried both memories in the slots
I've swapped out the NVIDIA with a Millenium 2 PCI video card

This is the first computer I've built with a ASUS motherboard.. not too inspiring except that everyone tells me it's a good company. Anycase the only guess I have is that the power supply is way too weak.. Only logical guess I have.. andycase I'm going to pick up one tomorrow if my new case doesn't come in yet (stupid company sent me the case with the screws all rattling around, scratching the case up :( ) If anybody has had any trouble like this and it wasn't a PS problem, please let me know.. Thanks in advance.

There are just some days I feel like I should have stayed in bed.. today is one of them.

The power is supply is very weak ,the bigger issue is did you buy a 1.30 or 1.33 CPU? The 1.33 runs at the 133mhz bus, the 1.30 runs at the 100mhz bus. If you truly have the 1.30 then the reason you cannot boot now is that you have set the fsb too high for this processor on this board. You will need to clear the CMOS and start over. I would really try to hurry and get the 300watt power supply in also.

later....

I agree with you and Bingo. These AMD setups need a lot of juice and I know some people can use a 200W PSU, but they're more than likely running a bare-bones box. Get the 300W, try it out, and keep us up to date. Also, don't mess with the default settings yet. Wait until you can get into Windows first to test your overclocking. What was the initial clock multiplier? 9x, 10x, 13x? If it was 13, then you have the 1.30GHz TBird. If it was a 10, then you need to set the FSB to 133MHz to get your true 1.33GHz speed. The FSB isn't auto detected, so you have to set that manually when you get a C-Type TBird (266MHz Bus).

Good luck!

Thanks guys.. I got it booting again. You were right about the FSB being to high. Funny thing was that I could have sworn I cleared the CMOS (was using a screw driver to short the pins) because I had a feeling about the FSB. Well this time I took the battery out and shorted the pins with a wire. Anycase I've been able to boot up to Windows 2000 blue screen.. :T That I can fix very easily. Anycase Thanks.

I do have another question..
Well the clock multiplier is at 12.6, the FSB is running at 100MHz. That gives me a total of 1260MHz system, not the 1300MHz system as I expected. Is there a way to speed it up (Manually set the jumpers), or do I have to do that mod everyone has been talking about (adding a dipswitch, & 470 ohm resistors)? I'm assuming it sets the clock multiplier :)

Another question, what's the CPU's Core Voltages? I've looked, but couldn't find it.. or maybe I'm just blind. If I go jumper mode, I need to set the VID1,VID2,VID3,VID4 to the right voltage. I was considering jumpering the clock speed to 103MHz or 105MHz to get the full processor's speed.

Thanks again.

I'd reccommend that you use the entire jumperless setup. I've had no problems with it whatsoever.

I'll give that a shot tonight using jumperless. I read the manual a little more carefully about setting the operation frequency. :) Wish me luck.
