Really need help getting data from my broken laptop (HDD removal?)

So my laptop totally died, doesn't boot, sometimes no lit screen, sometimes lit black screen, windows 7 tries to "repair" but says it can't repair... etc. Basically I need to send my laptop in, and I need to get data from my HDD before I send it in. I have some programming assignments that I need for school, and they're due MONDAY. I'm sooooo screwed if I can't salvage them.

Anyways I have a picture of the bottom plate of my laptop removed. I'm not sure how to do this, but I figured I'd be able to somehow take out the HDD, attach it to another PC and go from there to try and access my files. Can anyone help get me started?

If anyone has other suggestions on what I could do, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks.

On second inspection, none of that looks like a HDD, is it probably somewhere else? lol I found another small compartment which I can't seem to get opened...

Look on the manufacturer's website for a service manual. It should guide you step by step with removing the hard drive. Without giving us a make / model, we can't really help you.

We could have helped you much faster if you had actually given us a model to work with? I mean you have told us nothing.

The hard drive is normally marked on the bottom with a tiny symbol of 3 hard drive platters. To me, judging by that, I'd look at that access door on the right side of the picture. They are always fairly easy to remove unless it's a netbook, so just look up your make and model and online and put hard drive removal with it.

You were right, it was encased beside it. I think I removed it. Sorry, it was an Asus M50vm laptop. I'm going to bring it to random peoples' houses and see if I can salvage some data. Wish me luck, and thanks for the help.
