Really Liking Office 2007

Maybe it's just me, but I think everything is organized much nicer and it looks much more professional. The new font is much nicer than TNR imo, and the different font styles are great.

It took me a few minutes to figure out how everything is organized, but after I got that down most stuff is much easier to find. Microsoft has been accused of being lazy with a bunch of their software, but they really innovated with Office 2007.

Of course it could be argued that it isn't worth the money over the free office suites, but I feel it's a vastly superior solution (I've used OO quite a bit).

Of course the 2007 formats can be annoying if you don't remember to bring office 2003 compatible versions with you, but the pro outway the cons in my opinion.

What do you guys think about it?

Yep! I can agree with all you said - and it is even better because I got Office Pro 2007 free for attending a Microsoft TechNet event last fall.

One of the features I really like is ability to change the screen GUI colors. I really like the black and gray choice. You get a choice of three color schemes now under Word Options. That's at the bottom of the main menu.

Absolutely great. I use Word the most and I really like the changes. I actually didn't like 2003, so it wouldn't take much to get me to like anything else (cept OO, which works, but is not something I like to use). The second most used is Excel which I also really like. I'm no expert in either, but I can't believe that people are so confused by the new layout, which not only isn't confusing to a new user or a user of a previous version, but just makes a lot more sense and leads to you being able to get common tasks done much quicker. My university upgraded the computer labs I use to Office 2007 for the fall semester, so now I don't have to worry about .docx or the other 2007 formats anymore... well unless I need to access it from the CS labs with Linux machines and crappy OO, but I like to avoid those and moreso the neeeaaahhh CS majors in there when I can.

I haven't used it. But we're upgrading soon... we're going to just have to suck up the initial shock of change. We're more concerned about our older users that may take a while to get used to. That's my biggest concern. But it does look like it's laid out better. And my coworkers seem to believe it won't be an issue, so I'm going with that.

As far as OO goes.. it's good to have around. Competition is always welcome. I'm also spoiled in that, in a University setting, it's dirt cheap for us. I don't like it either, but for a small company needing maybe a dozen copies of office... well, economics can rule (depending on the nature of what they need it for obviously).

I love the new interface. I am not sure exactly how many of these things are 'new' but the way things are laid out now, I find myself using features that I didn't use before more often.

For instance, I don't remember something as ridiculously easy as this in Word 2003.

BTW, Office 2000/XP/2003 users should download the Compatibility Pack which adds support for the new Open XML file format.

The community college I attended and my current university have switched to Office 2007 just this fall. The IT people were smart enough to make it defaults to 97-2003 doc format when saving. When will the .docx format become more mainstreamed, like .doc and .pdf of today? I know Office 2003 can open .docx file with the huge converter file, but it's pretty slow every time I open it with the converter.

I've been using Office 2007 for a few months now. I've had a great experience so far and I do believe it was worth the money to upgrade.

The *.doc and *.docx issue was really a pain at first when I was exchanging files with other people. Eventually I did realize I could default to regualr *.doc files(same goes with *.xlsx, *pptx or whatever too). Anyways, at my job we are testing it a little bit here and I knew that was going to be a problem.

Microsoft made it easy with Group Policy to make all installations of Office 2007 default to 2003 versions. Easy.

There are things I really like about it, such as the rollover style preview. The ribbon bar I sort of like now that I'm used to it. I still struggle to find things that I have learned over fifteen years to locate in a certain place.

I use office at work and at home. Best upgrade I have ever seen. The ui improvements seemed odd at first, but now I can work faster.
