i have an old cyrix based sys, without underclockin and adding fans, are their ways to make it run better? bios updates?

i hafta keep my sis's pc runnin to appease the gods whom reside above (yeah like lots of people i live in my parents basement but im not 35 like some people i know) so any suggestions are really apreciated

Exactly what have you got in that system? I helps if we know what hardware you have.

First maybe do the basics:
W95/98-Ram specs ect.?
Clean out the dust
Clean out the temp files
Empty the Recycle Bin
Disable unnecessary startup programs
Scandisk surface scan
Defrag
Latest drivers and Windows Update patches
Possibly add more ram
ect.

Then you get into major hardware upgrades from there.

ok specs, sorry, its supposed to be a 266mhz cyrix, its got, 40 megs, maybe 48 edo ram, 8 gig maxtor ide a 4disc 6x cdrom, 10/100nic, some sort of 4/8meg vid card, really its just a pile of spares i threw together, really what i oughta ask is does any one have3 any 300mhz amd's layin around, ?? or know of any one still selling em? im not even sure what the mobo is, or if it is still supported, maybe just a loaner shot gun to put it out of its missery, i have the mobo manufacturers manual ,but it just says "mainboard" nearest thing to a logo says "#1 in the world" and "the best choice" apperently no manufacturing company wants to claim having swept this product out the door and charging money for it.

Cyrix 266. LOL. I bet you could cook bacon and eggs on that thing. Make sure it's getting cooled properly if it seems to be crashing and stuff a lot.
