Really how fast are 15K SCSI's?

I've always wondered how fast they are compared to general hard drives and Vraptor's. How do they compare?

They are aimed at different markets and tuned for different workloads. Historically Raptors (non V) have outperformed equivalent generation 15K SCSI for desktop use. Yes the 15K's pull ahead in synthetic benchmarks (iometer) but for ordinary desktop use the vast majority of users are better off with Velociraptors.

The cost and complexity of 15K SAS setups simply are not worth it unless you have a workload that is dependent on top level IOPS performance.

15K SCSI = tuned for multiuser servers
7.2k/10k SATA =tuned for single user use

For desktop use, Vraptor is fastest.

Still slower than a comparable Vraptor setup, in some cases dramatically so.

In fact, in desktop usage, top-performing 7200rpm SATA drives will often outperform 15K SCSI.

It's not just drive and CPU speed that make a killer rig.
It's a balance of everything from CPU, to memory, to HDs to RAID controller, OS, etc...

I have a 300g Vraptor and a Fujitsu MBA300 SCSI and with HDtach they both score similar. The few differences are the Vraptor has a burst rate of about 180 where the SCSI is around 105; the minimum transfer rate on the Vraptor is @ 70mb where the SCSI can drop to about 50mb...
