I've always wondered how fast they are compared to general hard drives and Vraptor's. How do they compare?

They are aimed at different markets and tuned for different workloads. Historically Raptors (non V) have outperformed equivalent generation 15K SCSI for desktop use. Yes the 15K's pull ahead in synthetic benchmarks (iometer) but for ordinary desktop use the vast majority of users are better off with Velociraptors.
