All I want is an extremely well made dress shoe with arch and heel support. Not athletic or boots just regular well designed shoes. Is there such an animal?

Is this my only option?

Ecco for more comfort but a little less appearance.

This may not work for you, and I put this out as the caveat, but Allen Edmonds if a firm but well made shoe is comfortable to you. For me, too soft a shoe didn't work, so I went with AE in a couple of their more classic styles (Park Avenue is a good shoe to start with if you're in a conservative profession or not). Turns out, I'm more comfortable all day in these than any other shoe.

Second-best was Kenneth Cole Silver Technology. It's a marketing term for their fancy insole. It's soft and comfortable, but soft means it has too much lateral movement in that case.

I dunno, maybe I'm an asshole, but I like my shoe to fit like a skate. Basically so that the shoe conforms to your foot with no slack.

I picked up a H.S. Trask Electric City shoe last month on sale for $60. More than I usually spend but seems a very quality product to me

Johnston and Murphy. Ask for the Dobson shoe and you'll be golden.
