I'm gonna OC a couple of Palomino 1700+ processors on air, and am not up on my HSF comparos. What's the equivalent of the XP-90/XP-90 C/XP 120 in the Socket A world?

Overclocking a Palomino is a waste of time. If you insist on overclocking though the current HSF installed is fine.

Look at the Zalman 7000A, that'll fit socket A. Also, the TT Silent Boost may be good value. Similar design to the ThermalRight products and there's a version that comes with a Panaflo fan.

But I agree, overclocking Palominos isn't worth it.

Be carefull overclocking a Palomino.
They run much hotter than later processors.

I have an 1800+ TBred running @ 2.3ghz that runs cooler than 1 1600+ Palomino does stock!

Make sure you have excellent case ventilation!

Well I got the things for free, mounted in ABIT KR7A RAID MoBos which appear to be pretty good for OCing, so I figured I might as well go for it, for shits and giggles if for no other reason.

Out of curiosity, will a 1700+ Palomino (1.47 stock GHz I believe) OC better than a 1.4GHz Tbred? (that's my main system righ now--I just cobble together what I can from spare parts and free stuff).

yeah I'm probably not going to spend $40 to overclock a $40 processor. Guess I'll see what I can get on the stock HSFs and go from there.
