these old cars seem to pop open if you play with the door with a metal ruler or something.

oh i've seen in movies. not sure if it'd work.

Reminds me of a situation I once found myself in.

See, you need to know that both me and my friend NEVER lock ourselves out. We're very good about it. Furthermore, BOTH of us usually keep two copies of our car keys on our person at all times...one on a keychain with the house keys, and a separate key by itself that we use to actually drive the car.

Anyway, this was the rare day when I hadn't gotten the other key for my car, so I only had the one copy. I drove to where I was going, locked the door and closed it...just as my hand brushed my empty pocket.

I looked in the window of the car, to see my keys dangling from the ignition. CRAP. I called my friend, and got him to bring me the copy that I USUALLY carried with me. He gave me tons of flack about it for the rest of the night.

Later on the same day, he was at his girlfriends' house, while I was watching a movie. Suddenly the phone rings. It's my friend, who says "you're not going to believe this..."

I got his keys from the dresser, and drove over to unlock his car.

Is it power locks? Usually you can get the winow down just enough to get a hanger in and hit the button. If you can't get the window down I can't explain because you have to feel it.

If nothing else call OnStar customer service and explain the situation and record it. I would love to hear them explain you don't have service while you act dumb.

Also don't know how the cops are down under but most here will open the door for you if you sign a waiver.

No power locks? do you have a hanger. Should take you <1 minute by either grabbing the knob if you have popups or going through the doorskin to the lock mechanism.

Still should be easy enough to get to the bar through the door skin. I take it you weren't a juvenile delinquent.

All else fails bust the passenger side window they are cheap.

slide a wire clothes hanger down the drivers side window. you will have to open it, obviously, and bend it all straight with a little J on the end... but if you slip in in between the glass and the rubber, you should be able to jiggle the lock thinkgy till it pops open.

btw... I did this once. I went to pick up my sister from High School (yes, that long ago) and VeggieFrog was only like 6 months old and sleeping in the car seat in the back. I left the engine running, her sleeping in the car and locked the door from force of habit. There were no hangars to be found. A cop was there... but when I asked him for help he said that he was not a locksmith service. Luckily there was a cabby at teh school, with a hangar and he has the door open in less than 30 seconds!

:)
