Really Dumb Question: XP Full/Upgrade

Ok.. I have a really stupid question that I should know, but don't :disgust:
Is there any difference at all between the full version and "upgrade" version of XP?
What I mean is, do you have to upgrade from Win98 or Me or whatever if you buy the upgrade version or can you do a clean install; because there's no way in hell that I'm going to run the upgrade instead of formatting and doing a clean install.

I would always try the upgrade path first . . . if it works then you save a lot of work. If it doesn't, it only costs you some time. You can always go the "clean" route, and yes . . . you can do it with the upgrade package provided you have your required earlier Windows CD for the sniffer. Other users have reported it even works with a 98SE Upgrade CD.

I have followed two upgrade installations now, and they both worked just fine. There are techniques to follow.

1. Tune up and tweak your existing system so that it is lean, mean and clean.

2. Turn off all peripheral hardware devices such as printers, scanners, etc. Add them later one at a time.
