Really disappointing experience with wireless keyboard/mouse combo

Hi guys,

I have finally assembled my HTPC setup, with the computer, DVD players and satellite receiver all connected to a 32" LCD TV/monitor.... and yet, a crucial element is still missing.

I got a BenQ wireless keyboard/mouse combo (BenQ x805 Wireless Desktop Companion), and it absolutely sucks... I keep the base in direct clear sight, at the same height as the mouse and keyboard, about 6 ft/2m away, and the mouse is stuttering badly, while the keyboard has to be held in a particular position if I want to be able to type. What am I doing wrong here?

I wanted these wireless devices to work... they are terrible. They're going back to the store tonight.

Can anyone recommend me a wireless keyboard and mouse which will work flawlessly, and won't break the bank, either? I don't want the mouse cursor to be all over the place, and I want to be able to work comfortably... by the way, I plan on doing some gaming as well, so the controls really have to work well....

I have a Logitech S510 Cordless Keyboard/Mouse combo, and i just love it. No matter where i place the receiver i always get a clear signal. They're going for 59.99 at bestbuy, plus they look great with a flat panel lcd, which im planning on getting soon.

Hmmm...

I've done some more research... it seems there are three combos I can buy:

1) Logitech S510 (about $60 CDN)
2) Logitech MX3000 (about $100 CDN)
3) Logitech MX5000 (about $140 CDN)

Honestly, I'm not sure what to do... I don't want to spend a lot of cash on this, but a good prduct is a must.
At most, the distance between the computer and the keyboard would be somthing like 10 ft./3 m... but I must get rid of this lag, and be able to use this system with any application.

The s510 isn't bad. I've been a logitech user for about 8 years now and I haven't strayed from their product line. Currently I'm using the MX500 (like the MX5000, but regular optical...not laser) and it's fine.
The only downside I've noticed is that the keyboards do tend to get 'sticky' (no, get your mind out of the gutter) after a couple of years. The keys will stick ever so slightly when you push them. It's probably from dust and dirt settling in the keyboard though. Not a problem with the keyboard itself.

I'd say go with the MX3000. I'm not sure about the S series. The mouse is pretty chintzy and the keyboard seems like it would be uncomfortable. If you really look hard, you might be able to find the DiNovo setup for around $150. That set is VERY nice. A friend of mine has it and I'm supremely jealous :)

I have a S510 Media Remote Edition amd I have to say it is exelent. At first I thought that the mouse was just a cheep wireless mouse, but I was proven wrong! It works on everything (exept glass or simmilar) and is very fast. The keyboard is also exelent with many funtions and controls, superflat and very comfertable (You probibly need to give it a higher angle but the legs on the back help with that). It also has long range. I love my S510 MRE. the only problem I have with mine is that my version is an AZERTY(French layout) keyboard but that is my problem since I bought it in Belgium. Beats my friend's Microsoft keyboard & mouse in comfert, functionality, responsiveness and price.

OK, time for an update... I returned that BenQ POS (the girl at the counter told me they had lots of returns with this item!)... and got myself a Logitech S510... I absolutely LOVE that thing! it works like a charm, has absolutely no lags, and looks good, too! I am finally satisfied!
