Been trying to get a stable 4.0Ghz OC(not even that high!) on my i5 3570K for a few days now and I'm having no success. My computer just freezes when I attempt 20 passes in LinX. No BSOD, no restart, it just freezes. Tested my RAM and it checked out okay. I've been trying different multipliers and voltages and cannot find anything stable. I just decided to keep the core voltage on auto and set the multiplier to 40 just to see what type of voltage I'm getting from CPUZ. This is where I become instantly confused.

For 4.0Ghz I was setting the core voltage at 1.195-1.2+ and having all sorts of freezing issues during stress tests. Now after setting the core voltage to auto and a multiplier of 40 CPUZ is showing only a 1.116-1.128 core voltage while running LinX. Can this be right? Was I setting the voltage to high? Why would that lead to freezing? I'm running LinX right now but its only at the first pass out of 20. Everything looks good so far with temps, low to mid 70s. I would greatly appreciate any input you may have.

EDIT: System just FROZE again while running LinX. I'm getting so frustrated!

EDIT 2: Popped in my spare 4GB of RAM and running LinX at 20 passes. Starting to have a feeling that it was the new RAM I bought.

EDIT 3: System froze again while using different RAM. I just reset everything back to stock settings and I'm running LinX. If it freezes with the default BIOS settings I'll really be stumped. When I put in the new CPU and MOBO I reinstalled Windows. Is it possible that this is from a faulty Windows install? I'm out of ideas.

System:
i5 3570K with 212 EVO
Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H
GTX 580
16GB Corsair Vengeance
750w Corsair

Did you install the latest Bios yet? AFAIK they were patching their Award wining bios to work with Ivy. I think the Award Wining Bios was based on a different chipset.

I installed the newest BIOS and still had freezing issues. Went to Microcenter this morning and returned the motherboard and CPU for a new ASUS P8Z77 PRO and i5 3570K. Up and running with no issues so far.

I see alot of Corsair Vengeance problems with Ivy at 1600Mhz I assume.

Seems it needs a BIOS fix if the memory aitn faulty.
