Thanks for the warning. Some of the business dealings of this company are outrageous. I'll stick to the legit companies.

Compgeeks has a cheap $18.95 ATX case with 250 watt power supply I bought for my kids computer about 18 months ago, and it still works great.

Sophisticated has some of the same cheap cases ... for about the same price. I believe these guys a fairly well-respected on ResellerRatings.

I have seen the case I linked in person. It is truly tiny. I'll be attempting to put an Abit BH6 in one once some components for my primary PC start shipping in decent quantities.

The only Skyhawks I have seen in local chops are really cheaply made, too. I wanted a really cheap case for a terminal I was putting together, but passed on the Skyhawk. So cheap inside I would come out with cut up hands just assembling a machine. HD cage flanges could be bent easily due to soft metal. Entire frame flexed enough with one corner raised that the side panel would not fit.

They went by the name Alpha International Business before and they're located in Pomona, California
I recall that I tried to order an ATX case from there a long time ago. I requested local pickup and they wouldn't
have that. They're stictly an online store. My advice would be to stay away from them.

I have one of those with a bh6 in my daughters setup. An OK case. I bought it for 12.95. You cannot put a lg heatsink/fan on the cpu due to the power supply being in the way.

I definitely am satisfied with it for the price I pd for it

Directron has a $22 case with powersupply (and only $10 shipping) and if you don't need it you can get it without the powersupply and save another $10.

Personally if I want a mega extreme cheap case, I just go to the local computer show ( www.marketpro.com has shows over a good section of the country, and if you print out the web site coupon or the email telling you when the show is you can get in for I think $5 or $6). They have cases for like $20 with 300 watt power supplies, total with the price of admission (assuming you don't buy anything else) thats about $25 bucks out the door with a extreme cheap case. I picked up one for a computer I was building for my grandma for about $30 out the door that even has front USB ports, and mobo tray, rounded edges, etc all the normal goodies. I was surprised at how decent the case was for that cheap. I also picked up case fans for like $3 each, floppy drive for $9 out the door, etc (this was all new parts). With the small components, you'd be amazed at how much you save going to one of those. Now with the major components, you are probably better off hitting newegg for the CPU, and mobo. Now if you want something good for a bit more, I suggest something like the ever cases at new egg, I think they are like $40 shipped without power supply and a few bucks more if you get it with 300 Watter.

Just a few suggestions from my experiance, yes it is more trouble to have to actually exit the house and drive somewhere on a weekend, but if your main concern is saving money, that can do it :) Its a great place to pick up adapters and misc parts too, all the stuff you wouldn't normally want to order by itself since the shipping would more than double the price on those kinda small inexpensive items.

Marketpro shows are ok except you just gotta watch out (if that's even possible) for the sleezy dealers from NY. There's alot of fly by night ran businesses that are there so you may get somethign good or you may not.

You basically have to do alot of comparison shopping. It may seem like a good deal, until you turn around the corner and find someone selling the same thing for cheaper.

Treat the dealers nice if possible :D as they usually have to drive for at least an hour to two (or more) to come to these shows to please the crowd and hopefully make for gas and lunch money!

I bought a couple of the geeks cases. Work great.
Even the 250w supply has no problems.
Running one with T-Bird 1GHz at 1.4GHz, GF2 GTS,+ normal stuff.
Other has Duron 750 @ 1GHz and GF2 MX.
Never a power problem.

I was gonna use this with a ECS K7S5a and a XP 1800 chip. Think I can get away with this ? I am building it for my grandfather.... I just don't wanna hear the thing "won't turn on... come over."

I am thinking of more or less the same setup, but with a Duron rather than a XP. :) Will it work?

I've been using the cheap Geeks cases for a while now. Of the 6 or so that I've used, 2 of the power supplies decided to crap out in the same week. I hope this is just some strange coincidece. Geeks list the case as having a 1 year warranty. Has anyone had experience getting a new power supply out of them?

I'll add my name to the list of satisfied CompGeeks case users.
I've build about 6 systems using these cases with BX chipset boards. Haven't had a power supply on them go bad yet.
Not the best built case, but for under 20 bucks it's well worth the money.

I wish more places would sell cases without power supplies. I just end up getting rid of them when I upgrade to a good ps, and the weight of the ps really makes the shipping on the combined units more expensive than it has to be. (That's the actual shipping cost, not to mention the inflated, "hide the profit here", shipping charges.)

I went to the Sophisticated and started ordering two cases and some other little things. When it got to the part about adding shipping, they wanted to charge $53 shipping on a $51 order. This is when I cancelled the order.

I have used the same Geek cases with pretty good success. Remember that when the power supply "cr@ps out," as some people have said, it usually isn't the power supply, but just the fan giving out. If you have a spare fan laying around, you can pull apart the power supply and put in a different fan. This can bring the power supply back from the dead. Just don't touch anything inside the power supply as their is residual power in an unplugged power supply.

Personally the only power supplies that stopped working for me it was always the fan, not the power supply. Usually this was in very dusty enviroments.

When I was having problems with Abit KT7A, all said it was due too my cheap Geeks power supply.
So I went out and spent the money for an AMD approved 400w supply.
Didn't fix a thing. Changed to Epox motherboard, and problems solved. That was a few upgrades ago.
With the extra power supply, was able to finally get a "real" case.
Newegg has 2 great choices at around $40 delivered without power supply.
Evercase and Maxtop. I choose the Maxtop, and it is great in comparison to Geeks case.
Well worth even $50 more than Geeks if I had too spend the extra $$.
But, old Geeks power supply went back in old geeks case, and sold to brother for use with 1.4GHz T-bird. (XP1700+).
If you must spend as little as possible, Geeks case w/ps will work fine for most users.

My friend did have a Geeks power supply go bad, and had no problems getting them to exchange it.

SimMike2-

I understand what you're feeling in regards to Sofistic's shipping rates. But, unless someone is offering free shipping on cases, the total sums are still leaning in Sofistic's favor. Sad but true.

<< This Caseis a perfect deal. 400w PSU SCREWLESS ATX Case $39.50, can't beat! >>

Shipping to me in CA was $23.82, for a total of $63.32 Also its hard to tell what you are getting with that case, they don't freaking even list the amount of drive bays, internal or external.
Total shipped for the newegg ever case is $57 (42+15 s/h) with the 300 watt power supply. If you need a better power supply you are better off going with the $22+15 s/h ever case without the PSU and buying a good one. Personally for me 300 watts is more than enough. I run several CD rom/writer drives, 5 hard drives, athlon 1.2, geforce 2, etc and I never have had a problem.
