Really boring temp job today

I've been out of work, and I've yet to get an accounting job with a temp agency that specializes in long-term contract to permanent positions. Last Thursday and Monday through today I've had a job where the entire job involves sitting around and doing nothing. All I did was pick up the phone when people called and either took a message or gave them another phone number to call. I showed people a couple of models that were for sale (this was a company that builds houses in a housing development).

We're talking about maybe 5 phone calls a day. MAX. Even less visitors.

I brought my laptop, but I found out that plugging it into the cable modem was fruitless - static IP. No neffing on ATOT or other forums for me 🙁 The first 3 days, I tried killing time by practicing drawing and reading a book by Stephen Erikson - book wasn't horrible, but it couldn't hold my attention. Today, I spend about 6 of the 7 hourse I had to kill time watching the first 2 Lord of the Rings movies. I liked them in the theater, and for about the five or six times I watched them after getting the DVD, but watching 6 hours in a row was kind of dull.

Wish I had brought some other movies and some Doctor Who episodes on DVD - just got City of Death, didn't think to bring it 🙁

This "job" beat in the fact that doing something, even something uber-stressful - is better than doing zero and getting paid for it. Trust me.

I would rather do that than what I currently do.

how much does it pay?

They never told me, but I'm desperate for work and don't have enough $$ to pay bills, much less rent for next month 🙁

Wait wait wait, you've been working for a few days without knowing how much the pay is?

wow.

Maybe because it's through a temp agency? However, I thought that they did tell you when they give you info about the assignment.

An agency tells you the pay when they offer you the job...where are you ? Rope a dope manor house...? Did you eat Franco American Hot dogs or something

answering the phone and showing models sounds serious

perhaps you should approach with a professional attitude instead of trying to hotwire the cable modem and playing with the playdoh in the desk..

Approach what with a professional attitude? Doesn't sound like there's much to approach.

Is it my fault they NEGLECTED to tell me? No. Cash is cash, and I would have taken it even if it was below minimum wage.

Dear retard, plugging an ethernet cable into a computer is equal to "hotwiring"? When does playdoh come into it? And ANY job is serious. They are paying you to work. I was told by the bloody temp agency that there was jack to do, so bring a book or any other form of reasonable form of entertainment to pass the time. I act with a professional decorum on any and all jobs I ever go on.

So where do you live? I'm too lazy to look at your profile. Keep pounding the pavement and I'm sure something will turn up. But in the short term, maybe posting your geographic location will allow a friendly ATOT'er to help you in your search.

 By that logic, 99% of the posts on off-topic wouldn't be posted here, but on xanga instead.

You're right. Everyone should post about their days, especially the boring ones.

OP, did you try the Charlotte Craigslist? I saw tons of jobs on that site.

I tried the temp agencies a few times but the only job I ever got was to call people and did a phone survey by my native language <not English> for a hospital. I think the pay was $15/hr. Not bad but it was boring because I had to follow the script.

The rest of the jobs from the temp agencies were for manual labor work or secretaries that pay less than $10/hr.

So it never occurred to you that you could actually ask what the pay is?
