Really bad skipping in BF2

I'm trying to play BF2 today, and I'm getting horrible skips every few seconds. I'll just teleport.

I've pinged the servers that I've been playing on, and everything is fine. I've run a traceroute and everything is fine. I've released/renewed my DHCP license. In singleplayer, there is no skipping and this is happening on other computers at the house.

We're hooked up to Charter cable.

Any thoughts or ideas about what I can do?

Here's a picture of my network usage while downloading a 120MB file at 329KB/s:Link

Yeah I get this occasionally in BF2 & it is indeed the onboard sound. I believe you have to have a sound card that is Direct X9.0C compliant or some such mess. Save up a little bit & see if you can get the card you need, or just buy it if you have the cash.

Well nothing is different with my computers and I've been playing it since June.

Also, it's happening on more than one computer with completely different configurations.

What kind of skips? Network? Stutters as in lack of memory?

What's the lowest settings you can go to where it won't skip?

I noticed high texture detail accentuated the stuttering for me, and it was because I only had 1 GB of RAM. I now have 2 GB and everything is butter smooth (well, except for my graphics, but I got a 7800GT for that coming :))

It's network.

Like I said before, I've been running this game on these computers for months. It's not the graphics.

Are you using any other network apps while playing? Something could be hogging the bandwidth... if it's not you it could be malware, or someone stealing your wireless or something.

Could also be a problem with your router.

That's a good point.

I'll have to check it out. My aunt has the wireless set up and I doubt it's secure.

Well, I'm sure everyone will enjoy the solution to this. :D

I bought some coax and a splitter on Thursday. Since this was the only change and I haven't played successfully since then, I figured I'd remove it.

I did, and everything is fine.

:D

No, that's the thing. It's not the same line. It's the line to my TV which is in a different room.

I plugged it back in and it's fine, so either it was a weird coincidence, or a weird line problem.

Either way, thanks for the replies everyone.
