really bad day here yesterday....7 innocent people murdered

He was convicted of assault with intent to do great bodily harm in 2000, records show, and a relative said he might be bipolar and off his medication.

Impossible, it is illegal for mental ill felons to possess firearms.

That's crazy. Reminds me of this guy we had a couple years ago that ran from the police during a routine traffic stop and ended up, I think, shooting (or shooting at) two cops, then running over and killing a third and trying to run over other officers after they took his tires out.

Brilliant... more bad press.

I heard that a pickup truck driver stuck in traffic was shot at but a titanium plate in his nose deflected the bullet, which probably saved his life.

this is true.

There are a lot of crazy things that happened in this...the press definitely didn't report all the details and I don't really care to go into them.

The bottom line is that some dude went bonkers, killed a bunch of people and ended up breaking into someone's house and taking them hostage, then killed himself.

I wish he had come my way. I would have helped him along in his journey.

I call shens. That movie Garden State showed us that bipolar people just need to have sex with a hot jewish girl and the mood swings go away completely.

not Grand Rapids. We have issues but nothing like this.

Southwest MI is a completely different world than the East Side (Detroit). However things like this make me really glad I have my CCW

a CCW in Grand Rapids? lol
i grew up around 7 mile west side Detroit. never needed a gun.

Grand Rapids definitely has violent crime but its relatively moderate. Much less than Detroit or Flint. I worked at St. Mary's for a few years early to mid 90s. Saw shootings or stabbings every week (just not a lot).

"he might be bipolar and off his medication."

It's always bipolar people doing this sick shit we should just lock them up as soon as they are diagnosed. This country needs more mental asylums.

common sense fail

If you'll be locked up for being diagnosed with a problem, then obviously you won't EVER talk to a doctor about this potential problem. Instead of having bipolar meds, they stay off meds forever then go on a psychotic rampage at your child's school and it's all your fault!

In a third scene on the northeast side, more than 12 officers surrounded a house in the 1200 block of Brynell Court. Just before 5 p.m., police said at least four people were dead.
The victims are three females and one male, officials told 24 Hour News 8. One of those was a child, GRPD Chief Kevin Belk said Thursday evening.

Yea at my house there would have been only the suspect dead with multiple gunshot wounds to make sure.

I know some people with mental illness, what worries me more and is not given enough press IMHO is the side effects of medicines and what happens when you just get on the medicines or stop taking them. When people get dependent on medicine especially if they really have a serious mental condition, it is very dangerous. For as far as i can tell, addiction or dependence is a very large and dangerous factor. If someone has a short fuse or is a schizophrenic and stops taking medication that person is dependent on... This will happen more and more often. It will also happen in Europe more and more often because of the cutbacks in the social support to give people a purpose, for example subsidized jobs to keep those people occupied and also mentally busy and positive.
Another example are people suffering from depression getting medicines. Suddenly they have the urge to take(they cannot sit still, they must do something) action because of the medicines while their mind is still filled with suicide thoughts...
