We are grinding ourselves down.
The dpc have sewn a few seeds of dissension.
They have sprouted. We tend these seedlings with the negativity we direct toward one another. As they flourish, their roots spreading, they erode the foundation of Team Anandtech. Look at the threads...
Topic after topic is negative. They will soon outnumber the 'new member needing help' and the 'congrats for accomplishing x' threads. Is that what this forum is for?
What is the reality? Let's look at the Dutch stampede for a moment. First of all, we have time! Between three and four months at the current keyrates? Whatever, something like that. Even if we do nothing at all, there is a reasonable possibility the contest will end while we hold the number 1 spot. I am in no way suggesting that we do nothing. First of all, that will not happen, because if we do nothing, we will lose members like Dan and RC (just to mention who is on page 1 right now, not listing those who have already left and those who will soon)and our daily output will fall.
So, what hope is there? Well, realistically, our goal should be to hold the #1 spot as long as possible. When an individual, even a high output individual, looks at 1 million blocks/day differential, it can be pretty overwhelming. We need a daily stat that tracks how long we will hold #1 based on the current keyrate. That is the number we need to focus on. Smaller personal contributions and assimilations will have a more 'real world' impact on such a figure. It would be a number that would be easier to relate to. I hate math, but I will try to work on this after I step off the soapbox. If these calculations would be easy for you, please don't hesitate to jump in. We could even have a page of figures, something like "today, a celeron@450 adds 30 seconds (or whatever it would be) to our time in first place"
Don't accuse me of a defeatist attitude. I want to win. But we will not overcome a million blocks a day this week. With the right attitude, I believe we can narrow the daily gap, but slowly. We have months! Every assimilation adds to the time we hold the top spot. Consider their resources. Compare in your mind their potential for further assimilation to our own. Is there a contest? No. Will it happen in October? No. Have patience. We only have to be ahead by one block when the key is found, and we win, in my book. It would be nice to be ahead in the dailies at that point, and that should be our long term goal, but have patience!
Dan, RC, each departure could be the pebble that starts the avalanche. Please consider that.
Recognize the dpc trolls for what they are. Their intent is to foster discord! Recognize their victories in this area! Witness our own petty bickering that is the direct result of turds they drop in our forum. Watch frustrated teammates lash out at one another. Recognize the source, forgive, rise above it all.
Win, damnit.
Or...let's just all join the dutch team...I guess that would solve all these problems, huh.
