Realistically, what PSU do I need to run TRI SLi at 950 core on each card?

With an i5-2500k at 5-5.3GHz, 7 3000RPM fans, pump, 1TB F3, 64GB SSD, keyboard, mouse... Would be everything powered by it.

850 was fine for two, and a modded 9800GT doing PhysX, was also able to fold the rig 24/7 without issue, but I really have no idea what kind of power I'm drawing, I can't imagine I have a lot of headroom left.

i think you could squeak by with a good 750w with your current setup

i would imagine stepping up to a quality 1000w would be sufficient.

Sons of VC&G! Of ATOT! My brothers. I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me. A day may come when the courage of the 470s fail, when we are forsaken by drivers and break all bonds of compatibility, but it is not this day. An hour of Radeons and shattered monitors when the Age of the 470 comes crashing down, but it is not this day! This day we fight! By all that you hold dear on this good forum, I bid you render, 470s of NVidia!

But in all seriousness, I could snag a bigger PSU. Either a second one, or a 1000 watt.

or you could just pick up a pc power and cooling 1200w to be safe. Oh, wouldn't you know it... I just happen to have one 5 feet to my left collecting dust :sneaky:

I have an CX400 in my closet, I'm thinking that should be enough.

HX850 has 840w on the 12v, the CX400 has 360w. With 840 being more than enough for SLI alone with the 9800GT as well I can't see needing more than that.

That should basically give me 1200w on the 12v.

Perhaps though, correct me if I'm wrong 🙂

I did, but the upgrade bug had me going for awhile with Ivy Bridge.

My pro board died about a month ago and I've been waiting on Ivy for an upgrade, however with the heat issues and prices I tossed a $125 bid on a p67 WS Revolution on ebay the other day and won it with only 1 total bid this morning.

It has the NF200 chip so my upgrade bug will be sated with Tri SLi instead of Ivy Bridge :/

3 x MSI 7970 @ 1100mhz core / 1500mhz Rams, Cpu Intel Core i7 3930k @4.8GHz 4x4GB Gskill 2400MHZ, SSD Corsair GT 120gb
pulling 1300W from wall, its around 1190W DC power(furmark+prime95)..gaming or folding shouldn require that much juice.. Psu is Seasonic platinum 1kW

Wow! I wouldn't have guessed that much power draw. Good thing you have such a high quality PSU.

Really nice setup, BTW. (Please don't tell me you're running @ 1080.) 😛
