Where do you guys get your costumes that are better than flimsy or plastic junk?

For example, any idea if this is as high quality as it looks? http://www.historicalclothingrealm.com/mr-hcr705.html

Probably too late and too poor to get anything for this year but next year awaits.

Can look at links to anything from Star Wars stuff, Star Trek jumpsuits, Babylon 5 uniforms, musketeer costumes, pirate costumes with frocked coats, as long as it's not plastic junk and is actual clothing, or even well built fiberglass stormtrooper armor(though I probably wouldn't buy something that expensive it's always fun to look).

For what it is, I'd say it's highly overpriced. If you're looking specifically for SW stuff I'd say to ask around your local fan clubs, 501st regiments, etc. Or, if there are any big scifi conventions near you, that's a great way to see the product up close and ask others already wearing it.

I'm going to dress up as a mage this year. There's a costume contest at work. I found some robes similar to the ones in Skyrim. I'm going to hand craft a staff to go with it.

My wife does special effects/haunted house makeup in her spare time. Usually just have her do it. Went as Zombie Kurt Cobain last year, complete with suicide note and shotgun. Here's a picture of it:

The picture doesn't do it justice as all those dark red spots looked like chunks of flesh dangling. The top part didn't look right to me so it got removed. I had also cleared off the mouth area a little to make drinking and eating easier. Ended up looking a bit sloppier but worked at the parties and bars. The more time she spends on it the better it looks. Here's us after:

Wow, for 1200 bucks, the light saber on the Obi Wan costume better be real.

Its real in the sense its a movie prop. If real lightsabers existed I wouldnt be worried about the cost. I'd worry about nut jobs running around fighting sith wars and lopping arms off all over town.

And thats actually pretty cheap for a prop anyway. I heard the self-lighting cigarette in Star Trek V cost 5 grand.

Back in 1980 I rented a cylon suit in NYC. it was one that was used in the show. Cost 200 bucks in 1980 money. Thats like 1000000 buck now. Company is long gone tho.

I just realized most of the stuff there takes several weeks to get processes, and I bet they are backed up around October.

Hope nobody orders now, they will be disappointed.
