(For use in my project, described here)

What are some realistic 'target' temperatures for the Socket A platform?

I mean... idealy, I'd like to keep my chip at the same temperature as the rest of the case, but I don't want my fans screamin' like a diesel train.

So.. where should I try to keep the temps at? Should I go just below the motherboard's "shut off" temperature? AMD says the Socket A chips are designed with a max die temp of 85 C, with a max ambient temp of 50 C.

Well.. with my thermalright slk-947u... i was able to keep the temps (overclocked) below 50c load all day long. THe only time the temps went above 50c was when my fan was dying.... if you aren't overclocking.... you can expect around 40-45c at load with a good cooler. I also had a fair number of fans in my case, but i had 3 hard drives as well.... (sig needs to be updated)

I'm going to be running about the same thing you are - Athlon XP-M 2600+ with SLK-947U. Thanks for the info.
