Realistic Dream House

Say you were building a dream house. I don't mean a Bill Gates 500 acre type place or however big his mansion is, but a nice, big home but still reasonably realistic. What would you get in it?

A home theater with big comfy couches/chairs and surround sound.
A deck that wraps around two sides of the house.
Wireless Internet everywhere.
A rink to play hockey.

even if i was using wireless, i would get good quality cat 5 run everywhere (2 drops per room minimum) leading to a nice patch panel in my shop/office/workspace.

i would get upgraded plumbing, individual pipes to all end points instead of branches

a "real" ventilation system, like what they put into commercial buildings

a nice water garden/koi pond

A screened side porch.
Fireplace
Marble bathroom
Bar in the kitchen (not for alcohol, just I like the way a bar is set up with stools and such)

Big deck with chairs and tables
Indoor swimming pool
Some rooms painted all black with stars and galaxies on them
Home Theater room with a projection screen
Greenhouse

EDIT: How the hell did I forget a bar?!

- Huge tiled walk in shower
- Private hot tub on balcony off of master bed room
- radiant heating where the heat "rises" from the floor for more consistent temps throughout the house
- basement would be a full entertainment center - bar, pool table, large movie watching area
- huge garage 1500+ sq/ft with climate control and full plumbing

I am building a dream house. On year #2 and still haven't moved it. Basically doing most everything myself. Working mostly nights and weekends. A portion of it is exposed timberframed construction w/ 25' high ceiling in the great room. 12'x72' deck in the front. Four second story 6'x16' balcony decks. Stone front with cedar siding elsewhere. 500sf loft, 3000sf elsewhere, 2000sf basement. One sh1tload of work. Should be done around Christmas and I'm taking the rest of my life off.

Clamshell-shaped room for Home Theater with sloped floor
Indoor pool

Wrap it all up in something <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.eplans.com/planDetail.asp?mscssid=GLE274D8888J8H8ELRH9P3B2SPSC5MNE&amp;serviceID=4&amp;refer=0&amp;searchID=27687476&amp;hits=8&amp;arrayPos=5&amp;hostURL=&amp;tabNum=0&amp;pageMode=myplans&amp;fromsearch=1
">like this</a>

- Cat5/6 to almost every room, multiple drops per room
- All wired to server room patch panel
- Media server to stream digital TV/DVDs to any room
- Home theatre room with projector
- Game room / Bar
- Huge, natural-esque pool
- 2 way Intercoms (video enabled) to all rooms
- Security system
- Huge showers
- High-quality plumbing and electrical work

Basically, I would to be able to call/talk to anyone in any room in the house from any other room. I would also be able to see who is driving up or at the door from anywhere as well. Also, I would have my own Video-on-Demand system, where I could stream TV to any room from my server. The pool, bar, and game room are for entertaining.

I'd also have a sweet-ass computer room. Lots of high-quality monitors for browsing/working, huge surround sound speakers (sound dampened/proof room), and a nice projector for gaming on the 10' wall.

Also, despite the interior of the house being very modern, I'd want the house itself to be very 'cabinish' and located somewhere on 20-30 wooded acres on a lake with a nice mountain view. Maybe someplace in Colorado or Wyoming, where I can get a bit of snow. (although that would probably make the pool useless. Hmmm..)

EDIT: w00t! 200th post!

That's pretty sweet looking.

Yeah...I have a few others saved at eplans but I like the looks of that one a lot. 😉

Only problem is I want the Master Bedroom Suite on the upper floor (better view.)

My dream house would be on 50 acres of land on top of a mountain overlooknig the ocean.

Who gives a fvck about cat5 cables and big TVs.

Somewhere like this or this.

What's wrong with having both? That's my plan! 😀

Well, no, nothing wrong with both, but you can put high speed internet and expensive TVs anywhere. It'd hardly make it a great place to live, unless you never left your house.

All I would require is:
1 - Walking distance to the beach (ocean, not a river, pond or lake)
2 - Area to store at least 3 kayaks up to 25' and a small sailboat
3 - Roof and walls to ward off sun, storms and cold.

It could be a thatched roof cottage or a freakin Yurt for all I care.

Agreed. I love the ocean.

Definatly a contemporary hillside ranch/multi-level.

One level above ground and the rest built into the side of a hill/mountain whatever. Lake/waterfront is an option, but if I was on the water I would need a extended covered deck on the top (ground level) floor to cast my lure from.

Of course everything would be fairly top notch inside. Marble, granite, hardwoods etc. Technology abound but not ridiculous.
The kitchen would be utterly pristine. Huge restaurant stlye viking stoves. Multiple islands with different cutting surfaces and sinks with disposals. Enough counter space sleep on all granite.
