1950's goverment regulations banned private ownership of flyable former US military aircraft. I think this applies to fixed wing only. But it might also cover choppers, (Id love to get a Used (UH-6 little bird.) I am not too sure how far it extends but I am sure with out a doubt that the law covers fighers and bombers.

I dont know how true that is, i've read a few articles about people who privately own F104 starfighters.

A few years ago I remember reading about some guy who bid on a F-18 Hornet at a gov't scrap metal auction. Somebody screwed up and forgot to cut up all the pieces of the disassembled jet. After 5 years or so he was able to piece it all back together.
