Hey everyone,

I was curious if some of you people could share your expertise with some Real-Time Video broadcasting programs.

Essentially, what I had in mind was similar to Hotcomm chat/voice/video rooms. I want to share my entire screen to some selected people so that they can see EXACTLY what I am seeing, cursor and all! Real-Time if possible, but if there is something like a 3 second intervals or 3 second delay, that isnt a problem. I don't need voice or typing chat feature, only video. If any of you had any programs in mind, I would greatly appreciate the information. Thank You

edit: additional information: Also, I want to let everyone know that the resolution needs to shrink down to fit the peoples screens. The guy that will be hosting the meetings has a 50+ inch widescreen plasma monitor. Even with my 2405fpw, I won't be able to view everything he see's, because Netmeeting won't shrink down the resolution to my needs. The meeting will have 60+ people in it.

Well I pray that there are better products out there now for this but the last time I did any remote work with others where I needed to share my screen we used Microsoft?s NetMeeting.

I chose it because it is preinstalled on windows 2000 and xp systems (conf from the run menu) and was able to do the tasks that I needed. Anyways it worked just fine for sharing a workspace (we could take turns using a given window that was open on my system).

Wouldn't others be able to control whatever is on my screen if I was using Netmeeting? Or is there just a simple function of it?

Any other suggestions?

UltraVNC, configure your server to force view only mode (ignores remote input). Also set the server to allow multiple viewers.

EDIT: Whether you'll get real time or not is a function of your upload bandwidth. A slow connection will show lots of lag, if they happen to be on your lan, then it'll be near real time.

Timbuktu Pro is similar to VNC, but it is intended for commercial and professional use. Unfortunately, it's not free. However, multi-pack licences are available as well as a demo (which may be entirely suitable for your project).

Timbuktu Pro will allow you to setup a system to provide guests the ability to connect and monitor the screen, and will allow you to do the real-time resolution scaling you need to compensate for the difference in screen resolutions. Additionally, a single host can accommodate several connections (i'm unsure what the limit is*), allowing you to share the contents of your screen to multiple people. In my experience, Timbuktu Pro is easier to setup and performs better than freeware VNC variants.

Additional features include the ability to Control, Exchange Files, IM, and Intercom, all by TCP/IP or Dialing Directly to the host. VPN, SSH encryption is supported.

Good luck!

*EDIT: According to the spec sheet, there is no connection limit on Timbuktu Pro hosts. As many guests can connect to your host machine as your available bandwidth will allow.:D
