Real-time Divx Capture with Dazzle DV Bridge?

Hey there,

I'm kinda new to the DV arena. I've been doing plenty of video capturing with VirtualDub using real-time divx/mp3 compression. I like it since you get a small (and final) file and don't need a large scratch disk. None of the software that came with Dazzle allowed even on-the-fly MPEG encoding. :disgust:

Recently I bought a Dazzle DV bridge, which (as far as I know) only does analog-digital conversion, digital-analog, and digital-digital. VirtualDub doesn't recognize it, so I can't use the DivX codec with it.

I installed Adobe Premiere 6.0 to do the raw DV capture, and then I'm free to recompress it. But the raw DV file size is absurdly large; 3.7MB/sec!! So I'm wondering if anybody here knows how to make Premiere do DV capture with DivX/MP3 encoding on the fly, or know of a program that can do it?

3.7MBs isn't large it's normal.

And as long as yer capturing thru a Firewire card Premiere will capture the footage at 3.7MBs. You can either capture w/Premiere and recompress it, or you can buy an ATi card or something to do analog captures using virtualdub.

Sorry, I forgot to add. I'm using a laptop to do this, so I can't buy the ATI card. I've actually been using a Radeon AIW on my desktop to do the analog captures. But I'll be traveling and I want to capture TV from Taiwan using my laptop. So 3.7MB/s (note: megaBYTE) is huge for me. :p I'm used to doing analog DivX/MP3 capture and using only about 100-200KB/s. I also insist on using the FireWire because the USB solutions all capture at really low quality.

Hmmmm.... I think yer stuck at capturing at 3.7MB/s. AFAIK whenever you capture via Firewire the capturing program, any capture program, will go "Okay, I'm capturing DV" and it won't let you make any adjustments to image quality or resolution.
