i'm about to buy a logitech MX518 off ebay and from the looks of it, it has depressions on the surface where the palm will be resting. am i seeing right? and if they're there (MX518 owners), how is it?

i'll be using it for non-gaming purposes but it seems like a good mouse to me...

thanks for any and all help
 
The things that look like depressions are just part of a funky pattern they put on it. It's a smooth surface.

The MX518 generally works well, but note that there doesn't seem to be any way to set application profiles for it, if that is important to you. You can use Logigamer with the older Logitech mice (up to the MX510) and the newer ones (G5 and onward) have the functionality built into the driver, but there are no options for the MX518.

Yes but you can program it in game anyways. FI, I had the side buttons used to switch between my 2 main weapons on the fly. The + and - buttons can also be used for the same purpose (theyre on the top part of the mouse and are used for the adjustable sensitivity IIRC).

In all it is a very good mouse and you wont be disappointed.

It depends on the game. Some work fine like that but others don't recognize the extra buttons, so you need to map them to unused keyboard keys to make them work.
