Real PSU Manuf. Check Up

Could do, all we'd need is a thread for the UL numbers from other posters.

Most of the PSU gurus already know who makes what supply, for just about every PSU out their. I know probably just under half of that.

I don't know who makes a lot of PSUs, like OCZ use different OEMs for different lines, as does antec. Perhaps just C&P this list adding those you know, first entry brand, second entry model line and model, third who makes it?

Then maybe a second list of OEMs, with comments about the good, the bad and the erratic?

Antec: Neo HE (all models): Seasonic

Corsair: HX (all models): Seasonic

Thermaltake: Toughpower 750W: CWT

Bobthelost, you just need to stick around the Hardforums PSU section with me 😀.

OCZ Powerstream and Modstream - Topower
OCZ GamerXstream - FSP Epsilon
Antec TruePower, Smartpower 2 - CWT
Antec TruePower 3, NeoHE - Seasonic

🙂

Nice find OP, thanks!

So what OEMs are decent? I know seasonic and FSP are good generally, and from what I've hears CWT is not. What about some of the others, like Topower and AcBel Polytech?

Topower can be decent - the Powerstream was based on their P6 design, but their Modstream was crap. I don't know much about AcBel.

Enhance is very good, as is Seventeam. Andyson is also good. Win-tact, Zippy, Etasis, and Delta are great.

My Enhance came wrapped in a plastic bag and power cord. None of that flashy crap. Awesome!

All of my PC Power & Cooling PSU`s come in a plain brown or white box with the PSU`s surrounded by bubble wrap. Plain and simple!

Enhance and Topower are almost the same, in my eyes at least. Both Topower and Enhance have not so great units, but they both have really good units at the same time. Andyson is the OEM that does most of the manufacturing for brands that you wouldn't expect to have good PSUs, but they are decent (Coolermaster and Hiper for example). Enermax and Seasonic are a couple manufactuerers that make great supplies also.

The UL file lookup technique is well known - I've used it for years, but it doesn't always tell the truth. For example, Antec PSUs known to be made by CWT show up as made by Antec, but they were just certified by Antec. Antec hasn't bothered to do that with the new models made by Seasonic as almost everyone knows Seasonic's rep. Antec was already well known and CWT had no rep at all when they started OEMing for Antec.

Enermax generally doesn't make their own PSUs any more. Most of them are Topower or CWT.
CWT OEM PSUs for anyone but Antec are good as far as I know. Antec put too much price pressure on CWT and look what it got them. Unfortunately Antec was/is such a big part of their business, CWT couldn't just tell Antec to go fly a kite... So they cut corners instead. I don't think anyone else that CWT OEMs for is big enough to put on such pressure.

.bh.

I didn't mean bad really, just that some arn't as good as others, similar to Topower. The ENP units are awsome, Baked.

Oh ok, you're off my hook then.

I don't like quoting myself. The Strider/Element units are built by Enhance.
