I haven't installed Real Player on a PC since I was running Windows 98. Back then the program was a disaster, (as was the OS).
I see now all sorts of advertisements for the latest and greatest Real Player, and now their Music Store.
Anyone here want to offer their experiences with the program and the products? Thanks.

I see all sorts of ads for AOL 9.0 being the latest and greatest version of AOL. I think you can see where this is going... :p

I gather you're not a fan of Real Player...........or AOL, for that matter.

the player itself was fine... it's just all the crap that gets turned on FOR you along with the install that gets irritating. I recommend Media Player Classic as an alternative to play .rm files.

So, the general consensus is that the program blows. Fine. What about their music store. They're running a special at .49 a pop. Or is paying for music akin to beastiality with this crowd?

After seeing a few of the people around here, beastiality might be good in their books.

Paying for DRM'd music is slighty below beastiality on the great long list of forum offences.

There are two sites that I use that REQUIRE the newest and greatest versions of RealPlayer. It sux.

BUT, if you install it, eliminate ALL file associations (Except for RM Files), make sure it does not update or phone home, and take it out of startup....it's not that bad.

(Kind of a pain to have to do all that in the first place.)

Man, I'm glad I asked first! Like I said, when I tried it years ago it was a POS. Sounds like it still is. I'll pass......and thanks for the feedback.
But, that still leaves me with the burning question: where to turn to download music to play on my PC while sitting here in front of it?
