hi!

i got a problem with my ati radeon 9700 pro. when i watch a real player video with realOne under windows xp, the system regularly freezes completely. i had this problem with catalyst 3.1 and 3.2. does anyone of you have an idea?

EDIT: with catalyst 3.1 it was at least possible to watch realplayer videos, it only crashed from time to time (lets say every 4th-5th video crashed the system), with 3.2 even this is not possible any more. with 3.2 the system crashes EVERYTIME when the playback of a realplayer video begins.

thanks a lot in advance!

You have a problem with real(gay)player messing up?
No one likes Realplayer, be glad you can't use it.

in fact i have no choice, when the videos i want to watch are in real format, don't you agree?

and its not the player (i plays other formats quite well), only the real video files make problems. and the different behaviour with the differnt catalyst version indicates, that this problem is at least NOT ONLY produced by real, but obviously also by ATI.

BTW you probably have never used RealOne, because - in contrary to all the old real players - this is an excellent player, its the only one (i know) that plays ALL formats incl. real and quicktime.

thanks a lot for the link and the first constructive post in this thread.
still i fear this won't solve the problem cause it requires real player to be installed and so it probably will cause the same freezes.
and i also don't like WMP...

Upgrade from RealPlayer to RealOne via the internet. RealOne Basic is free. I've never had a problem with RealOne.

do u have fullstream (or whatever the ati thing for cleaner video) activated? cause i knoew that is only usable on real files and with realplayer so that could be screwing things up

hi!

i have now soved the problem using an older version of the ATI driver (Version 7.81-021218a-007174E-Dell (probably the "Dell" makes no difference)).

still of course, you could be right, Glitchny. do you know where this setting can be switched on and off? i could not find anything like that in the driver options. perhaps this feature has been disabled in the old driver version and been enabled in the new version by default, or something like that...

thanks for your help!

I FIXED THAT PROBLEM !!!

I had the same problem playing .rm files in RealOne Player : my system freezed...

my gfx is a radeon 9700 pro with directx 9 and catalyst 3.2

I fixed this problem in the RealOne preferences : I Put the Video Card Compatibility cursor to medim and it's ok !!!

No loose of quality at all in this mode... but for .rm files who cares ???

w00t go basthi! That sure did it. I had the exact same issue with Catalyst 3.2s... started freezing with .rm files. Just slide that Video Compatibility bar to the middle and it works fine, watching an episode while I'm typing this =) Thanks for the help guys.
