I'm very torn on this one... I will lean towards real because the rug at the bottom of the stairs has too much detail in the folding. Also the top stair ledge has an imperfection... if it were rendered, that wouldn't be so in a scene so clean.

I was about to say fake because the light shining right near the bottom of the stairs has faded shadows similar to something a smudge tool can do.

well, if it were rendered then there wouldnt be much point to use photoshop to create shadows :p
you're talking to a guy who knows nothing about 3d rendering.. I only know photoshop. ;) So tell me it's real...

hehe, well for 3d the renderer does everything regarding shadows, photoshop is used for color touchups and sometimes to make certain areas brighter or others darker, just like you would with a photograph

and I used 3dsmax

To me, what gives away renders most of the time is a lack of focus.

I know, sometimes you get pictures without any out-of-focus areas as well. But that's fairly rare. Most of the time, something in the scene is out of focus.

Your floor texture looks a bit stretched or a bit crooked. Awesome though. Did you model the plants or paint effects? Got any more camera angles?

So far nobody has noticed the fact that he said he just found this image on the net.

I am saying real, just because I know 99% of the "rendered" posts in here are just arrogant idiots with no ability whatsoever who are using non-reasons to force a justification that it is rendered.

I voted real due to small details in the lighting, the glass, and on the floor. Plus, it appears as if you can see more than sunlight through the windows. The pixilation doesn't really concern me.

i would have to vote real because of the amount of details in the rug at the bottom of the stairs :D

Seems too picturesque for me must be rendered.

Also too much detail in the parts that should be fuzzier. The hall way along the left and right of the picture has too much detail. If it was real I would expect less detail because of the amount of light coming through the window.

that is precisely what makes a good render if you want realism, that is those little things :)
