Yeah, I thought it was real until I noticed the perfect circles, flowers, and texture on the hangin-out lightbulb holder thingie. My prediction: in five years this will be done in realtime on the latest nVidia cards...

Who is going to spend enough time modeling it though? Can you imagine trying to make an entire level or something with that much detail?

10 years ago, people were probably saying the same thing about the quality of todays games.. "its never going to happen.. whos going spend all that time modeling them"

its going to happen though. The market is going to demand it.

Why don't they just make seriously stereoscopic digital camera's and reverse render reality into compressable objects for playback through games. Could even render how wind affects the leaves on trees. Just need a ton of bandwidth and storage for the initial images.

That's incredible. The texture and lighting work are fantastic. I wonder how long it took them to model it and what the rendering time was.
