Real minimum SSD size

Guys...........lets join 2012. Back in 2003 when I built a AthlonXP 2100+/GF4 Ti4600/1GB ram/ Windows XP SP1 and thought that was awsome, an 80GB hard drive was too small back then. So I raid 0 two of them for 160GB and it was just about right. How can it be usable today? Frankly 128GB minimum is too small but it is mangable and anything more, cost greater than $1 per GB.

If they could get the reliablity equal to a good quality spindle drive I may just pay the high price.

Well, to be fair, the OP has a 500GB drive for data, so his situation is a bit different from yours. I use my HTPC's drive for my data, although I still keep all my user data on my SSD. It wouldn't be too good to go to a LAN party and not have any user data 🙂
 
I have a 96 GB drive in my Revo nettop. It's fine, but tight. I have 128 GB in my 13" MacBook Pro.

I'd agree that 120 GB is the true minimum, especially when you consider cost. 120-128 GB is cheap as borscht these days, and the price difference between 128 GB and 96 GB is marginal. In fact, 96 GB is becoming much less common than it used to be, which I suspect is partially because of the cheapness of 128 GB now.
