I don't see this ever getting a theatrical release unless it's limited. They're needing money just to try and turn this into a commercial release of any sort (that they'd be able to get on say Netflix, Amazon, or iTunes). Maybe if this is successful they might get some investment to make a theatrical level release, but I'm skeptical that this movie would get there.
I think this is awesome but then I don't get nauseous from it either. Is this good for every film? Obviously not, but it definitely would make for some stunning visuals when done right. Then maybe at least surround sound would make sense. I'd love for some really nicely shot stuff from a POV setup (proper camera and audio rig). There's a lot of things (just nature stuff even) that would be awesome.
I'd wish for someone like James Cameron to develop a rig for stuff like this but he doesn't seem to have much interest (based on what he said about the Oculus). Nolan seems to be so adverse to digital and a POV rig would absolutely need to be digital.
I really hope the next rover to Mars gets a sweet VR camera rig setup.
