my current specs are as follows:

amd 3700+ sandy
msi neo4-f
2x512mb ocz
x1900xt
sytrin nextherm 460w
BenQ fp202w
x-fi xtrememusic

I currently game at 1680x1050 (standard resoultion of my monitor) and was wonding if i upgraded my my cpu/mobo/ram to

3800+ x2 (am2)/ e6300/e6400
good budget oc board
2gb of budget oc ram

would i see a big increase in fps gaming at the high resoultion that i do? the games i mostly play are css, dod:s, bf2, oblivion (looking for a mmo)

by big increase i mean like 10-20+ fps

or would i be better off just getting a 3800 x2 skt 939?

or should i just wait till my next gen games that i want come out (huxley, quakewars, ut2007, crysis) and going for the am2/c2d upgrade?

Thanks ahead of time!

The CPU you have will not be what is limiting you in the latest games. It will be the 1900XT as sad as that is...

Read the Anandtech article on Oblivion and you will see that next gen games are GPU limited unless a high end crossfire/SLI setup is used

"...is really only CPU bound if you've got a pair of X1900 XTs in CrossFire. What this does mean is that if you've got a low end Athlon 64, you won't see much of a performance difference between a single X1900 XT and a pair of them running in CrossFire mode. But for the most part this benchmark is no different than what we've seen from other games, with the X1900 XT, X1800 XT and X1800 XL being basically GPU bound."

thats sad though... not everyone can afford a 1000$ setup just on GPUs.. nevermind a CPU to match them, mobo, ram etc.

That's why I said "It will be the 1900XT as sad as that is..."

I agree with you

I have to agree. Not worth it really. I doubt there will be much of a noticeable real-world improvement in games. Windows will probably feel a bit snappier due to the dual core but that's it.
