Would a sound card, say the creative xwave, with coax spdif output be able to pass a DD or DTS signal to a reciever with built in decoders? Even tho the sound card is only a 2 channel sound card. Thanks for the help, google only got me ads.

I'm not sure on the creative xwave, but the SPDIF output on my $25 Chaintech AV-710 outputs DD just find to my receiver via optical.

i think so.

s/pdif has a different protocol so it doesn't really work the same way as analog. I would like to know as well, so consider this a bump.

I just checked my Chaintech card with a DTS track (just got my first DTS movie this weekend) and it passes the DTS track just fine too.

I think any card that does digital out should pass DD and DTS just fine.

If you haven't bought the creative card yet, the Chaintech is a great buy and even comes with a short optical cable if you want to use it.
