Pricing will be vital for this. I think, I just might reconsider a few coming builds...

I agree with this. I was hoping for a little better but honestly I didn't expect it. That price tag is pretty good for what they offer. Definitely better than the bulldozer I have running now.

The numbers across the different sites are all over the place. I'll comment further tomorrow. One big omission, and a match up that I wanted to see was FX4300 vs A10-5800K. Piledriver with L3 vs piledrivers and no L3 to see how much Vishera got from the L3 compared to Trinity.

the "moar coars!" strategy would work if they had the process lead, just like the "moar MHz!!!" worked for Netburst, but alas...

Hmm...well it seems to overclock pretty damn good. Provided you are willing to give it a healthy oc I can somewhat see making the case for an fx-83x0 depending on the intended workload.

well, for the price of 3 FX 83xx it better be!

no doubt, but its also ultimately still no better than even the 3770K in such a task, of which it would be cheaper for me to grab a 3770K to replace a 3570K in a Z77 rig I already have, than to buy this new chip and a motherboard only for it to be no faster for x264 but worse for just about everything else

and considering I've had experience with 4.7+GHz 2600Ks that simply weren't fast enough for what I wanted them for, I don't think the 8300s will be fast enough either, although I am curious as to how viable they will be as a poor-man's alternative as the 8320 + motherboard would run comfortably under $300.

I'll be they still have a boat load of 8150 and 8120 im sure. Price probably reflects an attempt for product differations and they know people will pay more immediately. As soon as that stock dries up, these will drop.
