Looking for Blackout curtains from amazon...but most are advertised as blackout, but still allow quite a bit of light to go through.

Now I'm going to be coming from a crappy scenario: plastic thin shutters that do a poor job of making the room dark. I'm sure getting any type of curtains that blocks out more light will make a big difference. However, I'd prefer to get my monies worth.

Any recommendations? I'd prefer through amazon, but I'm willing to go elsewhere if anyone has personal experience

A few places I stayed at in Italy had these wooden garage-door like shutters/blinds that worked fantastically. I've since planned on getting something similar once I get my own place.

For unique things like this, I'd suggest going to a local B&M materials/fabric store. You get to see and test the product in person and buy exactly what you need. I bought some blackout cloth a few years ago for a DIY home theater project I was working on.

I've done well with the Eclipse curtains, which do double duty as thermals.

edit: they are stocked at Target and WalMart, so you can check them out in B&M before an Amazon order.

Right now at JC Penny they have some awesome blackout curtains for sale for a small fraction of their normal price. They look great too.
Robert Eclipse.

Or just go to the mall and ask them for blackout curtains. Buy the cheapest ones.

I have similar product in my bedroom. I have red curtains that do a great job of blocking out the sun, but I can not verify how well the thermal properties of if behave.

I went to my local Jo Anns fabric store for some regular black out cloth that i use in my theater room. I have a DIY BOC screen, and I use BOC to cover up a window. I have though about covering up the block cloth with some velvet to make it look cleaner and no fugly, but for this apartment and iteration of the home theater it wasn't worth the time or effort.

I visited Spain this last October and experienced these for the first time. They rock! I couldn't believe it. Pitch black in the middle of the day. I'm building some whenever I retire from the military and get my own place.
