spreading the wealth, or shared poverty?

this is why socialism fails, this is why communism fails, and this is why the liberals american utopian dream will fail. the liberals need a wakeup call for what "poverty" is and stop thinking that spending money and giving it to the poor will HELP them. Let them survive and let them be content in living. Stop making the poor feel bad about themselves because they aren't earning millions per year.

If someone doesn't even have the self-respect to help themselves, why do we waste so much effort on them?

Because you are worth it.

I enjoyed the video. Excellent voices a W as the dunce lolz.. Capitalism with mild socialistic undertones is the way the fly and practiced from about 1948-1980 until the union bashing, offshoring, no tax radicals came. Need a good balance IMO.

No shit, fuck poor people.

If you're born poor you deserve to stay poor. Having programs that lift people out of poverty is a waste of money that could be spent on a useless war.

Obama wants people to think that they're worthless if they're not millionaires, the same way he wants people to feel worthless if they don't have a college degree.

That's why I think Obama is irrational because he thinks insurance is health care and that college degrees are everything--I have a college degree and can't get a job. To be honest, it's almost better to start working at 16 and not go to college than go to college and trying to find your first job at 24.

Or at least it lowers the expectations a little. When you don't even have a high school diploma, you'll be a lot more willing to accept that your job might involve physical work. When a guy has a degree in fine arts, he might be a bit less willing to do hard labor.

Strangely, a lot of people around me who didn't go to college seem more well adjusted. One of my friends drives a truck, and he's fine with that. He doesn't have a HS diploma, so this is a good job that suits his qualifications. Some of my more educated friends are a bit more shell shocked that they have degrees and still end up working next to people without degrees. It feels like such a wasted effort. You put all this work into school and it does absolutely nothing.

I heard that the original intent for medicare was that it would reduce it's age requirement by a decade every so often so that by today everyone would be eligiable for it. Of course once that got out of the bag... it was stopped.

I have to look into it myself but I consider the source I heard it from trustworthy.

What tax cuts?
The Bush tax cuts enacted in two stages in the early 2000's of course...

For some reason it appeared you wanted someone else to mention it.

You wouldn't guess it by the way Obama talks, but some people are content with a hard days work working with their hands without a PhD, to come home to their family and enjoy the simple things. Obama wants those people to be incited into class warfare because they're not millionares and have a different car for every day of the week. He wants everyone to feel the trademark liberal emotion: jealousy.

That, or he just thinks it's unfair that some people who earn 7 figures or more pay less in taxes than working class people, and thinks that raising taxes on the upper brackets should be part of the solution, along with spending cuts, for the deficit. That's what he has said in a nutshell, and he has made several concrete proposals for legislation tracking those exact opinions. Everything else is what you think you've heard, or what you want others to believe he means by what he says.

really? Mitt Romney for example paid more in taxes than my entire direct family made for income, gross, last year.

I've come to those conclusoins based on things he's said and the actions he's taken. Spending cuts? HA! "We'll cut one million dollars*"

It is a fact that some people who make 7 figures pay a lower tax rate than working class people. It's right there under in the tax laws, see capital gains.

As for spending cuts, he signed legislation which is now law that cuts $2.2 trillion in spending over the next 10 years. He wanted to cut more, but the GOP would not agree to bump taxes on high earners. One million? Try using real numbers instead of made up ones.

You implying someone who thinks Government isn't the solution but the problem would be a bad candidate?

How did Reagan's policies of tax cuts and deregulation work out for America? Huge deficits and financial crises, while the middle class is vanishing.

Meanwhile, Reagan required hospitals to treat anyone regardless of ability to pay, aka "socialism" and "theft." While Obama passed a plan pioneered by the conservatives during Reagan years to require people to pay for their own insurance.

maybe capital gains can be taxed as income when the government guarantees against losses.

2.2t over 10 years based on base-line budgeting . . . nowhere close to making a dent
