You need a president who is (at least presently) either universally loved, and historical enough so that they are remembered in 50 years. I personally think that William Henry Harrison should be on the 85cent coin.

Because he did sooooo much during the 1 month he was president, right?

The ignorance of some people amazes me. Do some reading of some unbiased historical texts about Reagan, and then form your opinion. Read: He did not plummet the US deeper into debt. I'm not starting a debate, as this is not P&N.

Not to mention to replace the man that started welfare. It was a great idea at the time, but anybody with an inkling of intellect could see that the inherant greed and laziness in alot of people would make this a folly. He lost any respect by not instituing a time frame for when welfare would be eliminated.

:) you get entirely too worked up. Just pointing out that he really did nothing to warrant being on a coin. there are lots of presidents, but only the best need be preserved on a coin.

Drop FDR and put Reagan on it!

Reagan was one of the greatest presidents of my lifetime. I fully support this notion. To hell with all the wierdos, 3 dog pony shows, et. al, that disagree.:|

At least he didn't speend billions of dollars or pointless wars or anything else recent presidents have been doing.

But keepers of FDR'S legacy say the dime and Roosevelt have a unique connection. The March of Dimes was an outgrowth of a foundation that Roosevelt founded to find a cure for the infantile paralysis he suffered from.

"Every year, Americans all over the country sent their dimes in for the fight against polio," said Cynthia Koch, director of the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum. "I can't think of any American president that is more closely affiliated with any piece of coinage because of that."

Can laws be changed?

Yet another valid reason not to put Reagan on a dime.

Jeez! How quickly we forget what our greatest presidents have done! First of all, why not wait until Reagan has passed on before we immortalize him on a coin? And second, why take FDR off the dime? He got our country through the Great Depression. Reagan was a great president, but I personally feel that a new coin should be minted if we're going to put him on one...don't take some other president's face off of one!

Eh, actually WWII got us through the Great Depression, but that's a debate for another time. Leave FDR on the dime, wait for Reagan to die before considering him for a coin, then make a new coin for him.

I was going to make a comment as to how many of FDR's New Deal programs were later overturned, and there is WWII...

He's already got National Airport...that's pretty good.

AFAIK, it is a law.

And I seriously doubt that law would ever be changed for GW (or any other living president for that matter) short of the establishment of a presidential dictatorship.
There is an excellent reason for most laws, though idiots quickly forget them.

FDR all the way. I don't think Regan merits his own coin. However, given the choice between Bill Clinton or Reagan I would have to choose Reagan.

Well thank God we'll never have to make that choice!

Jeez... when do we finally give Polk his coin?
